Retour de Flamme: Enfance du cinéma
Serge Bromberg, familiar to UK audiences for his recent work Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno, returns to Ciné lumière with his cine-concert entitled Retour de Flamme: Enfance du cinéma. This captivating two-hour show of rare silent films, rescued from obscurity and restored, will be accompanied live on piano by Serge Bromberg. Amongst the highlights, Trip to the Moon, directed by Georges Méliès, stands out after a rare colour print was discovered and carefully restored. This evening launches the series 100 Years of Cinema.

100 Years of Cinema
Ciné lumière, whose very name pays permanent homage to the origins of cinema, will present a selection of the best films, internationally acclaimed by critics and audiences, spanning 100 years of cinema. Some of the films will be introduced by well-known French and British directors and actors throughout the year.

Ciné lumière: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité
Consisting of three parts, this world cinema season offers six symbolic films to represent each theme. Liberté will offer an insight into cinema that captures the themes of freedom lost, stolen, sought, refound: freedom as a fight. Egalité will present a selection of films on this subject notably incorporating a programme entitled Women's Voices, presented within the International Festival of Very Short Films. Three to five minute portraits of women from five continents will be shown. Fraternité will explore the themes of reconciliation and fraternity between peoples.

Rendez-Vous with French Cinema
Unifrance, the organisation dedicated to promoting French cinema worldwide, is back with this prestigious event presenting the preview screenings of four eagerly awaited French films attended by directors and actors. In addition, Unifrance will introduce 10 Young Talents/10 Films, which will showcase up-and-coming stars.

Mosaïques Festival
The Institut's annual festival, Mosaïques, now 12 years old, celebrates cultural diversity through the arts, taking the audiences on a cinematic, literary and musical journey each time. A special centenary edition of the celebration is planned this year. The line-up of Mosaïques' world cinema gives screen space to films that would not otherwise be shown in the UK and confirms the festival's primary aim of stimulating mutual exchanges.

European Documentary Season
In 2010, the Institut will once again host the European Documentary Season, a joint project of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) cluster in London, which aims to improve and promote cultural diversity and understanding between European societies. Celebrating the wealth and diversity of contemporary documentary films in Europe, selected cultural institutes and embassies in London and the European Commission Representation in the UK will showcase the work of new and established directors from across the continent.
