DELF (Diplôme d'Etude de Langue Française) / DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française)

The DELF and DALF diplomas are awarded by the French Education Ministry as certificates of French language ability for non-native speakers. Both exams may be taken in official examination centres in France and some 130 countries worldwide. No degree is required of candidates for the DELF diploma.

The DELF (1st and 2nd levels) diploma comprises six unit credits. Candidates may present and obtain units in separate sittings in the country or countries of their choice. Once credited, each unit is recognised as being definitively acquired. The DELF is subdivided into two distinct parts, each with its own certification.

The DALF(four unit credits) is an advanced certificate of language proficiency and is recognised as fulfilling French language requirements for university entrance in France and French-speaking countries. It is broken down into 4 unit credits.

TCF (Test de Compétence en Français)

TCF is the French Education Ministry's test of French language ability. It is a language placement test for non-native speakers of French who wish to obtain a simple, effective and precise evaluation of their general language skills for professional or personal reasons.

It is fully standardised and calibrated. The test is built on a rigorous methodology in order to provide a precise grading of proficiency. Test scores provide an accurate benchmark of the candidate's language ability using the six-level proficiency scale of the Council of Europe.

Diplomas of the Alliance Française

Thanks to the extensive worldwide Alliance française network, the examinations to obtain the diplomas awarded by the Alliance française may be taken in 135 countries. All certificates and diplomas of the Alliance française use the proficiency scale of the Council of Europe and validate the language skills of the framework ALTE (Association of language testers in Europe).

Diplomas of the Chamber of Commerce

These diplomas test the aptitude of the French Language user in professional life at different levels; they provide proof of a good command of the language, as well as understanding of the French socio-economic environment and culture. They also assess proficiency in business and specialist French.
