Ireland |1968 | col | 99 mins doc | dir. Peter Lennon
Late 1960s Irish documentary lamenting the hypocrisy of a country dominated by its Catholic clergy. Written and directed by 'Guardian' journalist Peter Lennon and photographed by the celebrated French New Wave cinematographer Raoul Coutard.
It was the last film to be shown at Cannes in 1968, during a tumultuous festival that Jean-Luc Godard brought to an abrupt close in sympathy with the student revolts in Paris. The picture then became required viewing for the French rebels due to the pertinence of Lennon's leading question: "What do you do when revolution is over and you must create a new society?"
Introduced by dir. Peter Lennon preceded by the screening of the 'making of' featurette including archive footage of Cannes 1968.
