Who are you?
We are a very busy, enthusiastic and dedicated team of three: one Cultural Attaché, one assistant and an intern (see below for details on internships). Our office is bilingual and is located within the offices of the French Embassy’s cultural department.
How is your department funded?
Our funding comes from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via the French Embassy in the UK and the French Institute.
Our budget is modest and for large-scale projects we raise additional funds from private sponsors.
Why do you focus on contemporary art forms. Aren’t heritage and classical art important too?
French contemporary art has changed a great deal in the past decade or so and our priority is currently to focus this aspect of French culture. France currently has a lot to offer - and to learn - in the contemporary arts. In addition, the approaches to contemporary art in the UK and in France diverge in many ways and we believe it is a particularly interesting and important time to explore these differences. That said, we certainly recognise the importance of cultural heritage and will assist such projects as far as possible.

Do you accept interns?
We have one position for unpaid internships lasting between three and six months. Interns are given a project to manage and in addition assist with the day-to-day running of the office. Our internships are a great way to learn about the arts in the UK and France and to get an insight into the workings of an Embassy department. An interest in contemporary art and working French are essential. If you would like to be considered for an internship, please send us your CV and covering letter.
