About us
The Institut français loves children, and wants them to have fun!
We organise year-round activities:
school activities, film screenings, library tours, Saturday French Tales, theatre performances, family concerts... and we also host special events, such
as the South Ken Kids Festival (formerly the Youth Festival), which is in its 14th year!
FAQ
Here are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the festival. If your question is not
included in this list, please email Justine Goy with your query.
Will the events be in English?
Yes! Most of the events will be in English. Some of them will be in French, translated into English
by our on-stage interpreters.
Do I have to book in advance?
Booking in advance is a must, because our events are always sold out!
Do I need to buy a ticket to attend book signings?
No, the book signings are free, and there is no purchase necessary.
Do I need to buy a ticket for my children, or just for myself?
Workshops are for children only, so you do not need to buy a ticket for yourself,
as you will not be able to go! However, the other events require an accompanying adult to be present,
and tickets need to be bought for children and adults. So if two adults and two children go to an event,
four tickets will have to be bought.
Can I buy books during the festival?
Yes! There will be two official book sellers (La Page and Foyles) with stands at the French
Institute. They will be selling books by all the authors present at the Festival.
Will there be food and drinks for sale?
Yes, food and drinks will be available for sale during the festival from
the Bistrot Couture, our onsite café.
Can I let my children attend events by themselves?
Children must be accompanied at all times, except in workshops, where there are no adults allowed!
There will be childminders to take care of their every need as they discover drawing techniques
with their favourite illustrator. It will be more fun for them without mum and dad!
Will their be a place to drop off my baby carriage?
Yes, there will be a place to check in your baby carriage while you and your children enjoy the
festival.
Can I exchange or refund my ticket?
Sorry, there will be no refunds or exchanges.
Do I have to come in advance?
Yes, we recommend you show up 15 minutes before the event, because we will be very punctual,
and latecomers might not be allowed in!
Can I bring my pet?
No, we're very sorry. Some people might be allergic, and your pet might be afraid of the Gruffalo!
Does the Institut français have a parking lot?
No, there is only street parking. Why not take the bus (14, 49, 70, 74, 345, 360, 414, 430, C1) or
the Tube (South Kensington, Piccadilly and District lines)?
