FRA | 1978 | dir. Ariane Mnouchkine, with Philippe Caubère, Joséphine Derenne, Brigitte Catillon, Armand Delcampe
The life of the great French actor-dramatist Molière is brought vividly to the screen in this spectacular fresco by Ariane Mnouchkine, founder of the Theatre du Soleil and one of the major figures of the modern French stage. Molière is her first foray into fiction film as she takes us on a journey into the dramatist’s life, his writing and inspirations in the background of Seventeenth century France. Selected to compete at the Cannes Film Festival, Molière went on to win two César awards for Cinematography and Production Design.
The film will be screened in 2 parts with a 15-min interlude.
