Now 16, Antoine (Jean-Pierre Léaud) works for a record company and attends classical concerts, where he first notices Colette (Marie-France Pisier). A wry, witty, perceptive look at the inexperienced teenager’s first clumsy attempts at establishing a relationship with a rather more sophisticated young woman, the short film reflects back on The 400 Blows and anticipates the development of Antoine in the later films.
This short film will be followed by Baisers volés (Stolen Kisses), Truffaut’s third instalment in the Antoine Doinel series. It is 1968, and the mischievous and perpetually love-struck Doinel has been dishonourably discharged from the army. He stumbles into the unlikely profession of private detective and embarks on a series of misadventures, one of them being of falling madly in love with the extraordinarily attractive Madame Tabard (Delphine Seyrig).
The screening on 14 Jan at 10.55am is a CinéBabies, for parents and carers of under 18 months babies
