Festivals & Series
The Institut français is presenting Dance on Screen from September to November, a film season complementing FranceDance UK, its UK-wide festival of contemporary dance.
Dance has been a central feature in films ever since the beginning of cinema. The September programme includes Thèmes et Variations (1928) and Etude cinématographique sur une arabesque (1929), two experimental films by pioneering filmmaker Germaine Dulac (on 8 Sept). We’ll also be showing Frederick Wiseman’s extraordinary documentary on dance and the Opéra Garnier as well as two films celebrating the work of groundbreaking choreographer Pina Bausch, who died ten years ago.
