Eyes on Spies

Festivals & Series

Always classified, invariably cryptic and occasionally comedic, tales of international espionage captivate the silver screen in many forms.

From central heroines in the depth of war to escaping the elaborate clasp of villainous characters, we uncover an early portrayal of agents in Fritz Lang’s 1928 silent film Spione and a gritty, unglamorous reality in John Le Carre’s novel The Spy Who Came In From The Cold starring Richard Burton.

But as we know, the secret service isn’t always a serious place; cue the UK premiere from French cult comedy series OSS 117: From Africa with Love starring Jean Dujardin. And in the spirit of double-identity, there is some coincidental crossover with our dedicated series for Jean-Paul Belmondo in Le Professional and Simone Signoret in The Army of Shadows.

And to get further in the spirit, why don’t you try a selection of special martini cocktailsshaken not stirred – in our in-house café, Café Tangerine.
