Winner of the Golden Bear at 2016 Berlin Film Festival, Fire at Sea captures the life of Samuele, a 12-year-old boy, on an island in the middle of the sea: Lampedusa. The most symbolic border of Europe, it is both a frontline in the European migrant crisis and a playground to young Samuele.

It is the story of two children who lose their parents tragically and must travel to safety on a mysterious journey. While dealing with themes of child migration, bereavement and resilience, the animation is meant as a storytelling tool for all trauma and feelings of loss and hope. Entirely produced during lockdown, it is a truly international collaboration involving more than 100 professionals based in London (UK), Sao Paulo (Brazil), and New York.
