Des gens qui s’embrassent
100 mins
in French with English subtitles
France | 2012 | col | dir. Danièle Thompson, with Monica Bellucci, Eric Elmosnino, Kad Merad
Unashamedly romantic, the comedy of manners It Happened in Saint-Tropez begins with a family wedding and funeral. Roni, a gauche, successful, irreligious diamond dealer who lives in the present, is the polar opposite to brother Zef, a classical musician, cultured and observant. Bound by their decrepit, elderly father and beautiful daughters, the family experiences fall-outs, fall-ins and fall-overs. With a beautiful cast and playful performances, Danièle Thompson’s film set in Paris, Saint-Tropez and New York is a veritable chocolate box of familial complications. Can the brother’s conflicts be resolved, betrayals forgiven and illicit loves let flourish?
