Jean Renoir’s 1937 masterpiece is widely considered as one of the greatest films of all times. In this World War One prison drama starring Jean Gabin, Pierre Fresnay and Erich von Stroheim, Renoir combines a moving humanist message with a complex approach to both war and 1930s politics.
