Told through the eyes of Truffaut’s life-long cinematic counterpart Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud), Les 400 coups sensitively re-creates the trials of Truffaut’s own difficult childhood and counts as one of the supreme examples of cinema in the first person singular. Not only Truffaut’s first feature, but also the first of the New Wave, Les 400 coups is an undisputable masterpiece.
Followed by the short film Antoine and Colette (1962) by François Truffaut, 28 mins and a Ciné Salon with Nick Walker
