May ’68 and its Legacies

Festivals & Series

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the May 68 protest is the occasion for the Institut français to turn back on 50 years of creation and ideas stimulated by the uprising of a cultural and political revolution guided by the motto: Power to the Imagination.

Traveling in time, we’ll first draw a portrait of the world in the late 60’s to understand how the ideas leading to the May 68 protests came to light with Heading to May ’68, a series of films by Jean-Luc Godard. We’ll then unravel the legacy of this singular year on cinema, literature, thought and activism in French and European cultures with a photo exhibition, Au coeur de Mai 68, discussions, book launches and testimonies, with May Made Me and A Walk Through Paris, and a film season giving a good overview of its impact throughout the years.
