Festivals & Series, Special Screenings
Adapted from a historical novel by Yves Dangerfield, Patricia Mazuy’s film features Huppert as Madame de Maintenon, the secret wife of Louis XIV, who runs a pious but liberal boarding school for young girls. In an attempt to expiate her past, Madame de Maintenon plunges into religion and soon imposes stricter rules. In a magnificent role worthy of her talent, Isabelle Huppert is bewitching in her command of emotions in this modern take on an eternal drama.
