Amanda Kernell’s coming-of-age tale recounts the emancipation of a 14-year-old Sámi girl, Elle Marja, from the daily racism she is exposed to in the 1930’s Lapland. Aspiring to a better life, she must become someone else and break all ties with her family and culture.
