Women Pioneers of French Cinema

Festivals & Series

This film series presents the work of the pioneering female filmmakers who, from Alice Guy, the first person to make a fiction film, to Chantal Akerman and Diane Kurys, are sometimes unsung trailblazers in the history of cinema.

Many of the films presented have been rediscovered and restored in recent years, while too many films directed by women are still extremely difficult to source.

As part of our Women Shaping the World strand, we will continue to search for, support and champion the work of female filmmakers, from Euzhan Palcy to Moufida Tlatli, and bring their work to the big screen in the future.
