Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and announced Morocco’s Official Submission to the 94th Academy Awards, the inspiring and energetic Casablanca Beats follows a former rapper who takes a job at a cultural centre in an underprivileged neighbourhood in Casablanca, Marocco. Encouraged by their new teacher, his students try to break free from the weight of poverty and of their restrictive traditions in order to live their passion and express themselves through the arts. Ayouch (Horses of God, Much Loved) drew his inspiration from The Stars of Sidi Moumen, a cultural centre he founded in Casablanca, featured in the film along with many of its students, and which has touched the lives of thousands of boys and girls.
