Nominated in 3 categories for the Oscars (Animation, Documentary and International Film) and 2 for the BAFTAs (Animation and Documentary), Flee is the ‘fantastically moving story of a refugee’s life-saving secret‘(Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian).
On the eve of Amin’s marriage to his long-time partner, film director Jonas Poher Rasmussen manages to get his school friend to open up about his untold journey – not even his boyfriend knows the details – from 1980s Afghanistan to today’s Denmark. In hand-drawn 2D animations, Flee reveals Amin’s odyssey marked by war and displacement, corrupted police forces and ruthless smugglers, and the construction of a new identity.
