Winner of l’Œil d’or for Best Documentary at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, For Sama is an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war, a love letter from a young mother to her daughter, as we follow Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo in Syria, where she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama.

“There simply hasn’t been a film like it before….A guttural cry of despair and an incendiary plea for justice. A fellow critic has already called it, ‘One of the most important films you will ever see in your life’. And I’m inclined to agree’.” The Times

Preview screening on 5 Sept at 6.30pm followed by a Q&A with directors Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts. Chaired by Lindsey Hilsum, News Presenter at Channel 4.
