In his inimitable style, Pedro Almodóvar questions motherhood and family, while celebrating female solidarity, in his new film which premiered at the Venice Film Festival 2021. Two women, Janis and Ana, who are going to give birth, coincide in a hospital room. Both are single and got pregnant by accident. Janis (Penélope Cruz), middle-aged, doesn’t regret it and she is exultant. On the other hand, Ana (Milena Smit), an adolescent, is scared, repentant and traumatised. The few words they exchange in these hours will create a close link between the two, which chance will undertake to develop and complicate in such a decisive way that it will change the lives of both.
