Captured from a seven-year-olds viewpoint, Laura Wandel’s truthful film tells the story of Nora; a young girl who is struggling to navigate the laws of the school playground. As she watches the repeated bullying of her brother Abel, she tries to intervene but her help only makes things worse. Echoing the universal memories and nerves of early childhood, with striking performances particularly from newcomer Maya Vanderbeque, Playground is an enthralling debut that won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes last year.
