New Releases, Special Screenings
Winner of the Best Actor Award and the Fipresci Prize at Locarno in 2019, Maya Da-Rin’s The Fever tells the story of Justino, a 45-year-old native Desana who works as a security guard at the cargo port of Manaus, in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. Confronted with the oppression of the city, where he never quite fits in, and the distance of his native village from which he left twenty years ago, Justino finds himself condemned to an existence without place. As the days go by, he is overcome by a strong fever. During the night, a mysterious creature follows his footsteps. During the day, he fights to stay awake at work…
The screening on 2 September will be introduced by Mia Bays, Oscar-winning producer and Director-at-Large of Birds’ Eye View. Followed by a pre-recorded conversation between Mia and writer-director Maya Da-Rin. There will be time after this for audience conversation.
