Bolivia, today. After walking for a week, Elder and his miner companions arrive in La Paz to demand for the reinstatement of their job. But Elder starts to feel sick, and struggles for his breath. Mamá Pancha sends him to Max – a witch doctor, hermit and clown – who may be able to bring the young man back to life. A fascinating film where nature and the poison of sprawling urbanisation collide to seismic effect.
Winner of the Venice Horizons Special Jury Prize for Best Film at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, The Great Movement was Bolivia’s official submission for the 2022 Oscars.
