Gaspar Noé’s latest film Vortex is a tender and moving exploration of ageing, death and dementia, starring giallo maestro Dario Argento and La Maman et la putain star Françoise Lebrun. Presented entirely in split-screen, the film follows the couple going about their routine simultaneously together and alone. Their day is uneventful but compelling nonetheless, and their tenderness so familiar it’s heartbreaking.
