For Sama

Winner of L’Oeil d’or for Best Documentary at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and the BAFTA 2020 for Best Documentary and nominated at the Academy Awards, For Sama is an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war, a love letter from a young mother to her daughter. We follow Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo in Syria, where she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama.
