L’Une chante, l’autre pas

One Sings, the Other Doesn't

FRA | 1977 | dir. Agnès Varda, with Thérèse Liotard

Agnès Varda’s portrait of womanhood is at once a tragedy, an unconventional musical and a pamphlet for women’s rights spanning over ten years. Two young women live in Paris in 1962. One dreams of becoming a singer, the other looks after her two children. They go their separate ways and meet up ten years later during an abortion-rights demonstration.

The screening on Wed 18 Sept is introduced by Dr Ros Murray, Lecturer in French at King’s College London
