The Wave: Italian Women Filmmakers

70 mins

ITA/SWE | 2019 | doc | dir. Adele Tulli

Original and visually daring, Normal is a genre-bending documentary that reflects on how female and male identities are performed in everyday interactions, through a collage of immersive scenes filmed all over Italy. From birth to adulthood, the film reveals how gender can define us in most of the things we do, affecting our gestures, desires, behaviours, and aspirations. With its open form and contemplative pace depicting the spectacle of gender in everyday life, the audience is invited to question and unravel the very idea of normality.

Preceded by the short film What ever happened to Darwin? (Leonardo Altieri, Sara Crippa, Giulia Manna, Maria Nocerino, 2019, 6 min.)
