FRA/BEL | 2017 | dir. Yves Hinant and Jean Libon, with Anne Gruwez, David Derumier, Serge Graide | doc
Awarded with César and Magritte awards for Best Documentary this year, So Help Me God observes the everyday work of Brussels judge Anne Gruwez, from interrogating suspects to visiting crime scenes, and directing DNA tests in consultation with detectives. The events unfolding in the atypical and eccentric judge’s chambers and beyond, show that blunt reality can prove more exhilarating than fiction.
Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards with judge Anne Gruwez and filmmaker Yves Hinant on the role of the judge in society and the position of a woman judge within and outside the judicial institution. Chaired by journalist Emma Jones.
