To escape the patriarchal cultural confines for women in rural Albania, Hana chooses to follow the Balkan tradition of declaring ‘eternal virginity’ and live as a man in the mountains. Years later, Hana looks to return to living as a woman and escapes to Italy, where she settles into a new existence in modern-day Milan and encounters an unexpected chance at love. Re-discovering herself, Hanna pieces back together the two souls that for years have lived inside her body. Sworn Virgin is the debut feature from Laura Bispuri and was screened in the main competition section of the 2015 Berlin International Film Festival.

Preceded by the short film Toilets (Bagni, Laura Luchetti, 2016, 9 min.) and a pre-recorded introduction by Laura Bispuri.
