Roundtable: Curating Contemporary Art

The Institut français is honoured to host a panel discussion featuring Christine Macel, Chief Curator of the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou in Paris and curator of the French Pavilion at the forthcoming Venice Biennale, in discussion with the rector of Städelschule Frankfurt, Nikolaus Hirsch. They will be joined by UK-based curator Chris Dercon, Director of Tate Modern.

In the past decade, the curator has become a key figure of the contemporary art scene. These three major figures of the European scene will tell us more about their steadily evolving missions, and exchange on their specific practices of “presenting art” to audiences with evolving expectations. They will also discuss the habit of presenting national pavilions at a major contemporary art show, and its meaning in a widely globalised art world.
