When President Macron came to power in France in 2017, his election blew a wind of change in the domestic political landscape. His willingness to reform the country was however challenged a year ago when the Yellow Vests crisis erupted, revealing a deep social and territorial divide in the country. To comment on this issue, two of France’s leading columnists and political commentators, Nicolas Baverez, economist and lawyer, and Olivier Duhamel, president of Sciences Po and member of the independent public policy think-tank Institut Montaigne’s Board of Directors, will share their understanding of the current and future trends in French politics.
