Sat 8 Feb / + Q&A

What is the most important role of museums today?

Should museums focus on supporting contemporary artistic creation, or caring for their historic collections? Is it more important that they contribute to the prestige of a capital, or should museums strive harder to bring art to other regions? Is the architecture as important as the collections?

We’re delighted and honoured to welcome the directors of four very different but equally compelling museums to discuss these issues: Penelope Curtis, Director of the newly reopened Tate Britain, Martin Roth, Director of the thriving Victoria and Albert Museum, Xavier Dectot, Director of the one-year-old Musée du Louvre-Lens, and Laurent Le Bon, Director of the groundbreaking Centre Pompidou-Metz.
