Development Executive (maternity cover) – January 2015

The Institut français du Royaume-Uni aims to promote the French language and culture and fosters diversity and cultural exchanges. Each year, thousands of people come to the Institut, which comprises a language centre, a library, a cinema and a French bistro.

Zero-hours contract (up to 35h/week) for 6 months (19 January 2015 – 31 July 2015)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Fundraising for the renovation project of La Médiathèque
  • Monitoring benefits for sponsors and donors
  • Operational execution of fundraising actions

The person will report to the Development Assistant, under the guidance of the Director of the Institut. The department supports the Friends of the French Institute Trust in its fundraising plan.
The objectives will be both to build sustainable donor relationships and to enhance prospection among British targets.

The Executive’s mission will be to search for annual sponsors and organise a large-scale fundraising campaign for the renovation of La Médiathèque, the multimedia library.

Communication
Creation of communication tools (French and English) to raise funds: including leaflets, flyers, application forms to foundations, personalised propositions for donors, solicitation letters

Events
Operational follow-up of fundraising events (logistics, communication)
Organisation of a worksite visit with the donors

Support the daily service functioning
Update and maintain a database of the data base with donors and actual or potential sponsors
Draft of sponsorship agreements
Find companies and individuals likely to be concerned by the renovation project of La Médiathèque

Required skills
A degree from an English-speaking country and / or a fundraising work experience in an English-speaking country are major assets.
Work/internship experience in fundraising
Bilingual English / French
Literary studies, Sciences Po, or business school degree
Early career
Good general knowledge
Sense of discretion and diplomacy
Communication and interpersonal skills
Rigor and availability

Fundraising Intern

March 2015 – July 2015

Internship dates: Monday 2 March, 2015 – Friday 31 July, 2015
Duration: 5 months

Tasks
As part of searching for annual sponsors and a large-scale fundraising campaign for the renovation of La Médiathèque, the multimedia library, the intern’s tasks will be as follows:

  • Communication
    • creating written and digital communication media (InDesign, Word, PowerPoint): making up and writing leaflets, flyers, reports, personalised proposals, etc. in English
    • writing letters in English and in French
  • Events
    • carrying out the operational logistics of the various events organised for the fundraising campaign (cocktails, worksite visits, inauguration party, etc.)
  • Prospecting
    • carrying out researches on companies, individuals and foundations likely to be concerned by the renovation project of the Médiathèque
    • drawing up specific files for prospects
    • following and updating the sponsorship contacts and partnerships databases of the Institut français
  • Day-to-day management
    • assisting the Development Assistant in phone call handling, secretarial work, filing, etc.

Level of qualifications: Year 1 or 2 of Master: Sciences Po, business school, communication school, or Master’s degree in Literature/Human Sciences

Required skills
Fluent in written and spoken English and French. An experience in an English-speaking country is essential.
Writing, analytical and deductive skills
Good command of data processing and page layout software
Required personal qualities: discretion, diplomacy, adaptability, teamwork, organisational, communicational and very good interpersonal skills, spirit of initiative

Other: paid internship – compensation according to current internship legislations – full time contract
Placement agreement must be provided by a French university / school
Cannot be part of a block released training (contrat en alternance)
