On the site of a derelict silk factory in Barjac, southern France, between 1993 and 2008, Anselm Kiefer created a gesamtkunstwerk formed of a labyrinth of tunnels, bridges, lakes and towers. Sophie Fiennes spent two years exploring the site with her camera before Kiefer abandoned the work, La Ribaute, to nature and left it to decay. The images she captured are supported by music by Jörg Widmann and György Ligeti, to create a mesmerising testimony to artistic endeavour.
The screening on 21 October will be followed by a conversation with Sophie Fiennes and Dr Petra Giloy-Hirtz, author of Anselm Kiefer. The Women, with selected texts by Anselm Kiefer, 2025
