1936. Palestine has been under British mandatory control since 1920 and tensions are flaring over the future of the territory and of its population. Chronicling the lives of both Palestinians and the British colonisers, Annemarie Jacir’s drama is a gripping account of a critical moment in Palestinian history leading up to the 1936 Arab revolt and its repression.

For this epic film, Palestine’s entry to the international feature film Oscar award for 2026, Annemarie Jacir (Wajib, When I Saw You) has put together a stellar ensemble cast that includes Hiam Abbass, Jeremy Irons and Saleh Bakri, while also making use of exceptional archival footage from the period.
