4 – 31 October 2025 at Ciné Lumière

The French Institute in London presents a selection of new animation films alongside classics as part of the 24th Fête du Cinéma d’Animation. Intended for young and young at heart audiences, the festival will take place from 4 to 31 October at Ciné Lumière.

The programme will feature the preview of Little Amélie inspired by Amélie Nothomb’s bestselling novel about her childhood, The Character of the Rain (Métaphysique des Tubes) on 25 October. The film transports us to Japan seen through the eyes of a thriving little girl decided to discover the world in her own terms.

Other highlights include the London premiere of Michel Gondry’s Maya Give Me a Title. Maya and her dad (Michel Gondry) live in two different countries. To keep in touch with his daughter and continue to tell her stories, her dad asks her every evening ‘Maya, give me a title’. Based on this title, he makes a cartoon for her to star in. With these adventures narrated by Pierre Niney, Michel Gondry brings to life through paper cuttings a poetic and amusing journey. The screening on 30 October will be followed by a free stop motion animation workshop with paper cuttings.

Directed by visionary science-fiction animator René Laloux (La Planète sauvage) and designed by the legendary Jean Giraudaka Mœbius – cult animation The Time Masters (12 & 18 Oct) will be shown in a 4K restoration. The screening on 18 October will be introduced by writer, curator, co-creator & co-host of the animation podcast Ghibliotheque, Michael Leader.

Special screenings will be organised on the occasion of the release of Night of the Zoopocalypse. The screening on 26 October is a relaxed screening designed for children with sensory difficulties. On 31 October, children are invited to take part in colouring session before or after the film.

A selection of French animated shorts (19 Oct) as well as screenings of The Most Precious of Cargoes (11 Oct) by Academy Award winning director Michel Hazanavicius and Zarafa (4 & 29 Oct) by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie complete the programme.
