From Sun 14 to Wed 17 DecJean Renoir’s third film during his wartime sojourn in the USA, The Southerner follows the struggles of an idealistic Texas cotton picker who aspires to run his own farm and create a better life for his family, in the face of harsh social and environmental obstacles. Made while Renoir was in exile in the United States, this lyrical, moving film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
