For the second year, Fluxus Art Projects awarded the Fluxus Prize to a UK-based artist exhibiting at Paris Art Basel. The 15,000 € prize, shared equally between the artist and the gallery, encourages galleries to showcase British talent, supporting their presence in the international art scene.

This year, the prize was awarded to Olu Ogunnaike, represented by the London-based gallery Hollybush Gardens. A special mention was awarded to Paloma Proudfoot and her London-based gallery The Approach.

“The jury admired the relational process in Olu Ogunnaike’s work through the materials and tools used, revealing stories, and by its fragility. They were particularly impressed by Hollybush Gardens’ excellent presentation of the work.”

The jury was composed of seven international leading figures in the art world: Anne-Pierre d’Albis (Trustee and Patron of Fluxus Art Projects), Daria de Beauvais (Senior Curator and Head of International Relations at Palais de Tokyo), Caroline Bourgeois (Artistic Advisor to François Pinault and Curator at the Bourse du Commerce Pinault Collection), Wells Fray-Smith (Curator at Barbican Centre), Nicolas Gausserand (Advisor to the President on International Affairs and Contemporary Programs at Musée d’Orsay), Hélène Nguyen-Ban (Chair of Fluxus Art Projects) and Frédéric Paul (Curator at MNAM-CCI /Centre Georges-Pompidou).

The laureate of the Fluxus Prize was announced at the Residence of the Ambassador to Great Britain in Paris on Friday 24 October.

About Olu Ogunnaike

Born in 1986 in London, Olu Ogunnaike lives and works in London. His silkscreen prints on mirrored steel and handmade paper, crafted from the pages of deaccessioned library books, are made using charcoal dust, the final material state of wood. The imagery depicts moments of everyday life captured on his iPhone, from gatherings with friends and architectural details in the city, to landscapes observed while moving through the countryside. In the last stage of the print process, Ogunnaike carefully excavates the image by removing the fragile charcoal dust from the work’s surface.
