During the 1920s, 47 film adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes stories were produced, all licensed by the creator of Sherlock Holmes himself, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, impressed by the convincing portrayal of Sherlock by actor Eille Norwood. Newly restored by the BFI National Archives, the programme of shorts offers three classic cases, A Scandal in Bohemia (1921), The Golden Pince-Nez (1922) and The Final Problem (1923), by prolific British director Maurice Elvey and screenwriter/director George Ridgwell.
