Meet author Khalid Lyamlahy in London on the occasion of the publication of Venice Requiem, translated by Ros Schwartz and published by HopeRoad with the support of the Institut français du Royaume-Uni.
Based on the true story of Pateh Sabally, a 22-year-old Gambian refugee who died in Venice’s Grand Canal in 2017, the novel follows a narrator trying to understand the events that led to his death. Through his reflections on Venice and its writers, Venice Requiem explores the power of literature to bear witness and preserve human dignity.
