To coincide with the anniversary, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni published a commemorative booklet, An Anthology of Translated Plays – Cross-Channel Theatre (2014–2025), offering a rich overview of the plays supported over the past ten years. The publication highlights the diversity of voices, aesthetics and themes that have shaped the programme, and bears witness to the depth of creative dialogue fostered between French-language playwrights, translators and UK stages.
The anniversary event itself featured staged readings of selected translated works, alongside moments of conversation that celebrated the bold creativity of the playwrights and translators at the heart of Cross-Channel Theatre. Curated by Marianne Badrichani, Felicity Davidson, Mark Maughan and Simon Scardifield, this showcase gave a glimpse into the diversity of contemporary French-language theatre today. With readings from writers such as Estelle Savasta performed by actors Tony Jayawardena, Suzy Kohane, Clifford Samuel, and Ellen Thomas, the evening showcased a wide range of theatrical styles while illustrating the strength and longevity of cross-Channel collaboration.
More than a retrospective, the event also marked a turning point. Cross-Channel Theatre has now evolved into a dedicated open call, expanding its scope beyond translation to support production, touring, programming and innovative collaborative formats. This new chapter reflects the programme’s ambition to continue accompanying exceptional theatre projects and to deepen Franco-British partnerships in meaningful and forward-looking ways.
