Nina Bouraoui’s critical satire of contemporary masculinity is a bleak but illuminating read, a valuable corrective to the toxic voices of the ‘manosphere.’ Bouraoui, known for her autofictional portraits of women’s lives and contemporary lesbian identity took an unexpected turn with this 2014 title marking an important contribution to on-going debates about toxic masculinity.
