Ada Karmi Melamede is one of the most accomplished architects in the world, but little is known about her outside Israel. In this intimate and illuminating film, her daughter Yael, also an architect by training, captures the extraordinary and inspiring career of her mother.
Ada’s story is interwoven with that of Israel, reflecting on concepts of “place,” “home,” and “state” as they resonate through the public structures she designed, including the iconic Supreme Court building in Jerusalem, Ben Gurion Airport, the Open University, and numerous other key institutions around the country.
Ada also explores the impossible tensions between professional ambition and private life, and the ongoing challenge of holding onto ideals in a country increasingly drifting away from them.
The screening on 1 May will be followed by a Q&A with director Yael Melamede
