Of Stars and Men
Sun 18 OctCreated by legendary animation duo John and Faith Hubley and based on the 1959 book of the same name by astronomer Harlow Shapley, Of Stars and Men follows a small boy crowned King of Beasts as he begins to question humanity’s place in the universe. A comet sparks a journey through the mysteries of time, space, matter, energy, and the origins of life.
Blending fluid animation, an enchanting classical score featuring Bach and Vivaldi, and charming dialogue from the Hubleys’ real-life children, this unique animated documentary offers a playful, philosophical exploration of man’s place in the cosmos. Winner of the Special Jury Award at the 30th Annecy International Animated Film Festival and recently restored, this is a rare chance for little ones to experience this Hubley Studio classic on the big screen.
Special Screening
The film will be preceded by an intro by curator and founder of Reverie Cineclub, Nathasha Orlando Kappler.
The screening will be followed by a cosmos-themed direct animation workshop using paints and pens, inspired by the film (price of the ticket includes the 1-hour workshop, only paid audience can access the workshop).
