For the third year, Fluxus Art Projects awarded the Fluxus Prize to a British artist exhibiting at Paris Art Basel. The €15,000 prize, shared equally between the artist and the gallery, encourages galleries to showcase British talent, supporting their presence on the international art scene.

This year, the prize was awarded to Ebun Sodipo, represented by the London-based gallery Soft Opening. A special mention was awarded to Nina Davies and her London-based gallery Seventeen.

The jury was composed of six international leading figures of the art world: Caroline Bourgeois (Artistic adviser to François Pinault and Curator at Bourse de commerce), Clement Delépine (Director of Lafayette Anticipations), Belinda de Gaudemar (Fluxus Prize at Art Basel Paris Patron), Laurent Issaurat (Trustee of Fluxus Art Projects & Fluxus Prize at Art Basel Paris Patron), Hélène Nguyen-Ban (Chair & Benefactor of Fluxus Art Projects) and Véronique Parke (Co-Vice-Chair & Benefactor of Fluxus Art Projects).

The laureate of the Fluxus Prize was announced at the Residence of the Ambassador to Great Britain in Paris on Friday 23 October.

About Ebun Sodipo

Born in 1993, Ebun Sodipo is a London based artist who seeks to subvert notions of race, gender, sexuality and systems of power, as defined by history, its images and their communication. Through a practice that incorporates assemblage, sculpture, archiving, film, poetry and performance, Sodipo at once mines ancestral knowledge and contemporary visual culture for Black transfeminine experience, interrogating where the record of this presence exists within the archive of Black experience. The artist explores the complexities of aspiration, intimacy, sensuality, gender euphoria, witchcraft, desire, fantasy, surgery and adornment.
