The French Institute supports the AI Translation Slam, where texts are translated simultaneously by human translators and AI at the Goethe-Institut in London.
Since it’s first inception in 2023, the machine used for the AI translation slam have evolved: it is now time to retest them and see if they can cope equally well with texts in German and French.
For this second edition, two experienced translators, Joanna Pawulska Saunders and Aubrey Botsford, will compete against machine translation systems expertly operated by Daniela Ford. After each round, the audience will get to vote for the best translation.
The event will be moderated by literary translator Christophe Fricker (University of Bristol) at the Goethe-Institut on Wednesday 2 October from 7pm to 8.30pm within the context of International Translation Day 2024, organised by English PEN.
