With A Magnificent Life, Sylvain Chomet (Belleville Rendez-vous, The Illusionist) crafts a beautifully depicted biopic of iconic writer and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol. While living in Paris, Pagnol is commissioned by ELLE magazine to write a weekly column about his childhood in Marseille. As he digs into his memory, his younger self resurfaces, sparking a moving dialogue between his past and present, about life, lovers, and passions, set against the backdrop of Paris’ Belle Epoque, the rise of fascism, and World War II.
