In spite of its poetical name, Ōme “the blue plum” is a quiet small town on the outskirts of Tokyo. Far, far away from the red carpet and the glitz of the Cannes Film Festival, yet the cinema is everywhere in Ōme. The city walls are plastered with countless film billboards. The inhabitants stroll between Lawrence of Arabia, East of Eden, La Strada, Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde… Ōmecittà tells the story of the French artist who named Ōme the “Japanese Cinecitta”, inviting the viewer to a magnificent journey into the glorious past of Japan’s intriguing cinephilia.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Chantal Stoman
