Sister Midnight

Karan Kandhari’s darkly funny feminist fable is a wonderfully unpredictable film on an arranged marriage in Mumbai. As Uma proves less and less like the housewife her husband might have expected, their lives drift apart as she finds independence by venturing out into the city and he finds comfort in booze. In this absurd, yet exhilarating comedy, rebellion is set as an ideal, as are widely unconventional behaviours.
